Suzanne H. Dyer, M.A.
Suzanne
Dyer is a native Floridian, born and raised in Fort Lauderdale. She relocated to Daytona Beach in 1989
with her husband of 24 years and her 3 children, who are all currently pursuing
degrees at their respective universities. She is a nationally licensed Clinical
Christian Counselor and holds a Masters Degree from Cornerstone University in Clinical Christian
Counseling.
Ms. Dyer has been employed in the field of counseling since 1992. She
began her counseling career as an on-staff biblical counselor with Daytona
Calvary Chapel. In 1995, as a co-facilitator of Volusia County’s
Overcomers group, (a Christian based support group dealing with addictions and
issues of depression and anxiety) Ms. Dyer developed the techniques required to
cohesively guide the recovery process through peer support and
interaction. It was at this time that
she began her Masters internship program at New Horizon’s Instituteof Counseling and was then invited to join the Institute as an associate counselor.
The live radio talk show, “Family Matters”, WAPN 91.5, has extended frequent
invitations to Ms. Dyer as a guest speaker on various subjects including, but
not limited to, relational problems, eating disorders, and topics of faith and
prayer. She has also been invited to speak at various
institutions, such as: Daytona
Beach College on the subject of relational co-dependency; the Volusia County Brotherhood of
Electrical Workers on grief recovery; and, local churches on the topic of the
identification and de-programming of religious cults.
In 2007, Ms. Dyer personally directed an in-home women’s support group
targeting female-specific problems (e.g., Menopausal Phase of Life and
Pre-Menstrual Syndrome) and the related issues of depression and anxiety. Additional sessions were held to assist the
group in discovering their unique and individual purpose in Christ. Ms.
Dyer has also led various groups in Biblical instruction through the Calvary
Chapel New Believers program. On a personal level, Ms. Dyer was licensed
by the State of Florida in 2004, as a Foster Parent, during which time she had the privilege of
parenting a baby girl, from infancy through the age of two. At that time
the child was returned to her biological mother.
Ms. Dyer is currently counseling at New Horizons Institute of Counseling where
she employs both individual and family counseling, periodically offering the
Christian therapeutic dynamics of a support group. In addition to the
standard, clinically approved Christian therapeutic techniques, Ms Dyer
specializes in the science of Temperament Theory, (the theory that each
individual has a
unique in-born, God given temperament). These techniques are used to
guide individuals in the process of mental health and to aid them in reaching
their full potential through understanding the strengths and weaknesses of
their unique, God-given temperament.
